Charity Comic - Vinyl Scratch's Glasses by muffinshire Charity Comic - Vinyl Scratch's Glasses by muffinshire
Clivo100 is leading a fundraising drive to pay for tests and treatment for a friend, Robyn, who suffers from Irlen Syndrome, a visual-perceptual disorder with some similarities to dyslexia. Irlen Syndrome sufferers experience difficulties in reading text, among other symptoms. Clive is running a fundraiser on Indiegogo with a goal of raising the US$800 needed to cover the costs of evaluations, lab tests and special lenses to help correct Robyn's problem and allow her to complete her studies. They have already raised more than half the funds needed, and since both he and his friend Robyn are bronies, Clive approached me to help raise awareness and make a push for that goal by writing and drawing a pony comic. Here then is my imagined "origin story" for Vinyl Scratch's signature look, in a tale that shows how a little generosity can make a huge difference to someone's life.

The Indiegogo fundraising page can be found here: [link] , so please give what you can.

Please direct any questions about the fundraiser to clivo100.

Update: Equestria Daily has featured this in one of their comics posts.

Update: Goal achieved! Thanks to some amazing displays of charity, Clive and Robyn have reached their total. There are truly wonderful people in this community, as these outpourings of generosity in the many different fundraising drives going on have shown. Today, I am proud to be a brony, and so should you all be. If you still want to donate though, please do - Clive has made it clear that any surplus will go to the Irlen Institute, helping others with the same condition.

Update: The Irlen Institute, a charity leading research and awareness of the condition, has featured this comic on their Facebook page.

I wonder which bed and desk belongs to which pony...

It's not like it's super obvious or anything.

Found this after reading the Twilight's First Day series. And because of it we may have inadvertently discovered what may have been causing a chronic problem for my wife. Planning to get tested soon. Thank you.

That's good to know. I hope your wife gets the help she needs.

I totally thought she couldn't read it because of sleep deprivation from too much late night partying. :) Cuz that's what happens to me =P

Im pretty sure the name of the magazine could have been chosen better, but nevertheless, it's a good comic.

I always love it when these two are portrayed as friends rather than lovers.:) (Smile)

What's wrong with them?

Everypony knows Vinyl and Octy are a couple. Couples have no need of bunk beds. ^_^

I may not have Robyn's sight problems, but as a painfully near-sighted person who always needs his glasses on, I can sympathize. This is going in my favorites.

So they're reading glasses... so she isn't a douche who wears shades in doors! But seriously, Vinyl is awesome, and so is Tavi
AC-whiteraven Featured By Owner Jul 30, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I just wonder how her glasses stay on..  O__O
lunastudios90 Featured By Owner Aug 10, 2013
his nose, maybe?
6tothesource Featured By Owner Aug 15, 2013  Student Writer
Ever seen The Matrix? Vinyl's glasses are similar to Morpheus' shades. Designed to be worn upon the bridge of the nose.
Karolkwiecjasz Featured By Owner Aug 24, 2013
Yeah! And they also designed to fully cover the eyes which causes an Xtereme Xplozion of Coolness!!!

I've read hoofbeat. And it's not about music or speakers...
muffinshire Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
Yeah, I wasn't aware of the other "Hoofbeat" when I drew this! But it's an obvious pun name for a pony music magazine. The Lone Star Comics exclusive cover for issue 1 of the official IDW comic (this one) has the same joke.

That's interesting^^…

lucky7number7seven7 Featured By Owner May 25, 2013
This could also be a solution with derpy, think about it! The only reason she isn't on the show more is because someone (who is an asshole) found her offensive, the only offensive part about her is the fact that she is so clumsy. In real life that could be blamed on her lazy eye, and therefore a vision problem. The solution? GLASSES!!!!!!

How does she know if it will help her she needs to take tests of her eyes first or did she do that at night while vinyl was sleeping?

It's magic, bro. It's magic.
deltasworder1x Featured By Owner Apr 1, 2013
