Ah, how cute, they have piercings in Equestria...And somehow it makes getting a nipple piercing look less painful.

So are horse shoes the equivalent to getting your ears pierced? Heheh.

That actually brings me a question here...what exactly does a pony uses horseshoes for? I mean yeah I can understand it being used like actual shoes or something in the hind legs, but what about the ones in the front legs? How would that work out because there are some ponies who uses their front hooves to do and hold things?

:iconmarinus18:

Shoes are used both front and hind legs.

Well I know THAT, I can understand horseshoes being on the hind legs, but it's the front legs that gets to me. Sure ponies can walk on all fours but some if not most ponies use their front legs to do certain activities especially hold objects.

sorry.

Maybe front ones are made of rubber.

That's one simple theory, so that's on the board of most likely.

Rubber has a lot of grip and is very resistant to abrasion so that's why I thought it would be a likely material for a flexible shoe.

It's probably more of a style thing, like dress shoes and neckties.  Sure, they're highly impractical in most situations, but in formal and classy settings they're a must!

Then explain saddles? A strange thing to wear for a pony? Do they even know what saddles are meant for?

:iconthepatrioticpony:
ThePatrioticPony Featured By Owner Aug 9, 2016  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
My theory is that they were originally developed to help carry each other if one of them couldn't walk, due to injury, disability, or exhaustion.  In wartime, for example, medics would wear saddles with medical bags in order to administer first aid and then carry the wounded back to a field hospital.

Saddles quickly found popularity in the civilian market when parents found that they kept their foals comfortable and secure, so they could nap on the parents' backs without worry.  Efforts to make saddles more appealing to the eye led to the development of lighter cosmetic saddles, generally worn like one would wear a hat during an event.

This would explain why Twilight had a winter saddle: she knew Spike would be stubborn and go back to bed, so he could just sleep on her back while she helped with Winter Wrap-Up.

My headcanon is they grab things with the soft middle part of the hoof

But when they apply horseshoes to them, what then? Magnetic horseshoes? You know how complicated that would be wearing something like that?

Have we ever seen them using horseshoes that cover the middle part of the hoof instead of being just U-shaped or circular?

I think in the Galloping Gala or something where they had shoes covering their hooves? Or are they gloves? God damn this is complicated thinking XD

It's probably more based on real world horse shoes at this point. That being so the paved roads don't hurt their feet.

That would make sense, you know for the hind legs, but what about the front? My guess they use a more flexible sort of material for the horseshoes in the front like rubber or silicon or something?

We also mainly see ponies wrap things around their forelegs when the grip things, so they might not effect that. Then again, this is taking place in Canterlot, where 90% of the ponies are unicorns.

That is true, I'm starting to think there's some sort of agenda going on with Unicorns and the other ponies? But enough about the Illuminati Colts, gets get back to horseshoes.

Right. So maybe the front horseshoes are flexible like gloves to allow more control, or maybe have suction cups on them, though that would be difficult to walk in.

It must be made out of some sort of rubber material, something that is easily bendable and flexible for certain ponies to hold onto certain objects. Which brings up another thought, ponies wearing silk gloves or socks on their front hooves, both hooves even. I mean they dont really wear shoes when wearing them so obviously they'll get dirty. Like imagine trying to hold something while wearing gloves with the palms covered in dirt and god knows what.

Ugh, don't get me started on hygiene in equestria. Yes they wear socks/gloves at social gatherings or parties, but I have yet to see any gloves in a cooking environment. I mean unicorns still have an excuse with magic, but what about the Cakes and Pinkie at sugercube corner. Do you see them wear gloves? NOOOOO! The only excuse I can come up with is that they wash their hooves when they come in and keep that floor so sparkly clean, germs couldn't live on it.

That's for the best. All the cool ponies are going to have to deal with the fact that their hooves are still growing and their horseshoes are not.

It's nowhere near that painful. Hooves have no feeling so it won't hurt at all if it's done right.

The fleshy center part (called the frog) does. The part on the outside is made of keratin (the same as human fingernails) and that's where the horseshoes are nailed.
